A Visit to the Gem Show!

A Visit to the Gem Show!

So, picture this: I decided to shake things up last weekend and hit up the Ottawa Gem Show at the Nepean Sportsplex for the first time in a few years. And boy, oh boy, was it a gem of a time!

What's the Scoop on My Gem Hunt?

I grabbed my bestie (also a gem nerd!) and we strutted into the show with high hopes and a keen eye for sparkly treasures. And let me tell you, we hit the jackpot! Among the sea of gemstones, I stumbled upon some surprise Canadian beauties.

What Gems Caught My Eye?

After loading up on the usual gorgeous suspects of moonstone and labradorite and perusing most of the show, waaaaay at the back I laid my eyes on a booth that had stunning and unique Canadian gems including Hackmanite, straight out of Quebec. This gem is as rare as a unicorn sighting, and I felt like I struck gold (or should I say, struck gemstone?). Hackmanite is fluorescent under black light (so cool!) abnd is a gorgeous smoky blue colour.

Next on the list was the dynamic duo of Azurite + Malachite, a match made in gemstone heaven and mined in the Yukon. I couldn't resist the allure of these two gems, swirling together like a cosmic dance. The pieces I came home with looked like aerial photos of the earth, with ocean and landmasses both included. Incredible!

What caught my eye next was some Aquamarine from BC, as mysterious and blue as the ocean on a cloudy day. It was like holding a piece of the sea in the palm of my hand.

And last but not least, I was dazzled by Green Quartz from the Yukon, an earthy green gem that reminded me of moss on the forest floor. Isn't mother nature amazing?

What's My Verdict on the Ottawa Gem Show?

After a day of gem-hunting and oohing and aahing over all the shiny rocks, I left the Ottawa Gem Show with a heart full of joy and pockets full of gemstone treasures.

I can't wait to make my treasures into gorgeous jewels for you, coming soon!
